Dr. Downes' Anti-Inflammatory
& Cleansing Broth
My broth is vegetarian and is powerfully alkaline and serves cleanse the blood. Alkaline foods contain negative ions that bind free radicals, those biological troublemakers that are a result of toxins and stress. Many of our body pains and ailments are due to inflammation so this broth is also anti-inflammatory and very soothing in nature.
Ingredients…
4 carrots cut in 2" pieces
4 stalks of celery
4 red radishes
1 beet, quartered
Handful of fresh green beans
Handful of fresh Italian parsley
1 leek, quartered (tops cut off, wash well inside)
4 okra split in half
2 inches burdock root
3 red skinned potatoes, quartered
½ head of green cabbage
3 1-inch pieces of peeled ginger root
2-3 shavings of turmeric root
2 green onions
2 tbs of extra virgin coconut oil
3 cloves of garlic
2 cucumbers, cut in 1 inch pieces
2-3 tsp of Sea Salt
A few dashes of cayenne pepper
2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
2 whole cloves
1 gallon of water and…
a cup of red wine (optional)
Put all in a very large slow cooker, turn it on low, go play tennis or go to the theatre. In 8-24 hours your broth is ready.
Strain and discard veggies and keep the Anti-Inflammatory Alkaline Cleansing Broth. Add more salt or pepper to taste. The ingredients are seasonally variable, just make it with the ingredients that you have. Somehow it always turns out great!
Sip on it all day and do a broth cleanse. Or, replace a few dinners in a row with the broth for extra cleansing. Add free range chicken if you like. Most of all, sip it with a warm and thankful heart...
